Michael Banel's journey into electronic music began in the early 1990s, immersed in Copenhagen's underground party scene. What started as a fascination with collecting vinyl records quickly evolved into a passion for DJing, spending countless hours behind the decks, shaping his sound and initial DJ career.

As the scene continued to grow, so did his ambitions. A chance meeting with fellow music enthusiast Emok sparked a creative partnership that would prove to be a defining moment. Together they started to build a studio, shared a vision for pushing underground electronic music forward and laid the foundation for what would become Iboga Records.

At the same time, Michael was part of a crew organizing both small and large-scale warehouse and outdoor events, helping create a vibrant platform for the emerging electronic music community. These experiences opened doors to an international network of artists, producers, and promoters, helping Iboga Records gain momentum from its very first releases.

What began as a label showcasing local talent soon expanded far beyond Copenhagen and quickly established itself as a home for groundbreaking artists from around the world. Over the years, it grew into one of the most respected and influential independent labels in the underground electronic music scene, earning a reputation for consistently championing innovation and quality.

More than three decades later, Iboga Records remains as active and forward-thinking as ever. Alongside its sister imprint, Ibogatech, the label continues to release a diverse spectrum of cutting-edge techno and psy-trance while Michael continues to perform internationally, bringing his decades of experience and deep musical knowledge to clubs and festivals across the globe.

Today Michael Banel has sharpened his focus towards DJ'ing Psy/PeakTime Techno while establishing Ibogatech firmly within the same universe.

During 2014-2024 Michael Banel was part of the duo MVMB with Martin Vice, releasing two full-length albums as well as a string of singles, EP ́s and compilations.

The project still today spawns new fresh interpretations from various prolific techno artists alike.
